This Year, Thus Far
This year, thus far
Has taken everything
Of our masked and socially distanced selves
To get used to this year,
This year,thus far
With fear always near
And daily, something new
To try and adapt to
Tell me, what land is this?
I ceased to recognise it months ago now
This year, thus far
And it will not slow down,
Slacken its pace
Nor cease, for even a little space
To grant us a breath and a break
(What happened to April, by the way?
Did it happen at all?
If so, where did it go?
We'd like to know)
This year, thus far,
This calendar destroyer of this year, thus far
This year I look forward
To looking back on
And bid it not a fond farewell
And still, too many months to go
This year,
And too many lessons to take in,
Strewn amongst
The shards of the days, week and months
Of this year, thus far
As we try to keep
A sense of humour and balance,
So we won't be falling down
Around the place
This year, thus far
(Oh, and if you happen to see April,
do please give our regards and apologies
for missing it altogether)
