Falling Off Cliffs (In the Time of Coronavirus)
We barely knew there was a cliff
Until we fell off it.
And we keep falling,
Wondering when we shall land
On land again.
For now,though,
Vertigo rules
And dizzy too,
Going end over end over end
And trying to remenber
A non-vertigo world –
So long a memory ago,
Only a few months
And already these memories
Are in sepia –
Another age ago
Another time ago
In another country far away
Where we didn't keep
Falling down and around the place
Like now
But here we are looking up at this cliff
We just fell off.
And we might, just might,
One of these years/weeks/days,
Land on our feet
And know what to do
And so
Let go of the vertigo –
And take a deep breath again.
