Stripped of All Pretence
(Immunotherapy No. 10)
Here
So many,
Who at their weakest and least able,
Have to struggle
the hardest.
No one said it was fair.
I noticed her bandana first,
Brightout beautiful,
Covering her head,
Colours bursting forth
On a ward that celebrates such flourishes.
And then I saw her face -
Stripped of all pretence,
Well past the pretend stage,
No kidding,
No messing.
Simply put,
No bullshit.
It doesn't work here.
An honest face,
Be it defiant,
Accepting
Or any of the stops
Along the way -
And no pretence.
