Back In The Waiting (Truth in Signage) Room
(Immunotherapy, No.9)
I never chose to sit here;
I did neither an interview nor an audition.
The biopsy did it,
No, I never chose to be here,
Where the fish swim
And the patients sit,
The fish in their aquarium
And we patients on our chairs - waiting.
The Oncology Day Ward -
No, I never chose this,
But here I am,
Five months of chemotherapy
And four months now of immunotherapy later,
I stay startled
At how my world, while contracting, has expanded
On this one small ward;
My sight and insight keener,
My hearing more acute,
My compassion and empathy
Awakened from slumber
Amidst all the lessons beyond number,
Here
Where I never chose to sit.
