Trying To Figure It Out
(on the Oncology Day Ward)
No straight roads here;
They all come with hiccups, bumps,
blips and detours
I did, though, manage 44 weeks/22 treatments
In a row. Not bad.
It was my turn again;
A mess is the middle of me,
Full of 'atypical' surprises.
I keep them guessing and investigating,
Trying to figure it out
Here on this ward
Of so many and so sick
Parchment-skinned and too-thin friends,
They too,
Trying to figure it out,
All on their own crooked, not straight roads
They inspire and challenge me,
Teaching me lessons,
Sometimes with words.
Every single one
Trying to figure it out.
