Mary Yesterday
I stopped and spoke with Mary yesterday
ready for winter and freezer full she is
hoping that Georgia Power won't cut off the juice
Three hundred jars she has put up
of this and that
and jellies too
Glad for spring and summer toil
Poor she is and knows it
yet proud she is as well
wondering what's to come of poor folks
with prices the way they are
But brother Jack is well
(praise the Lord for that!)
been so long
since he's touched the stuff
and Uncle Sam finally came through
with the long overdue disability
He has himself a fine little nursery going
and with the cold coming on
there are plants everywhere
except the sofa
Better than bottles
(Lord, yes)
I saw Mary yesterday
and she and brother Jack
well
they are looking to tomorrow
